All Things Encompassed In Me
Contemporary artist, Michael Moorer Jr., photographs superimposed jewelry on models and explores ways in which the multilayering of silver and gold jewels shape the human identity. Created using a mixture of vintage and ultra-modern jewels, All things encompassed in me, presents gently used, fashion forward gems, in a digitally packaged format.
Each model was presented with a set of jewelry options and from these options combined the jewels to form an extension of their own expression and being. With consultation, Michael then photographed the models in natural motion.
While the photographs may convey a variety of responses from its arrangement, Michael hopes to present jewelry as an extension of formed identity and its inherent multiplicity. The multilayering of silvers and golds, casted on a faceless form, give weigh to this effect. This chorus of layered jewelry immerses the viewer in multiple perspectives. The decision to remove face from the arrangement was both intentional and necessary in order to capture the aesthetics of jewelry while drawing focus away from the extremities of the human form. It is Michaels’ hope that the viewer recognizes the inherent multiplicity of identity and even more so, the right for people to be multiple.
